COLLEGE PROFILE
Doaba College, Jalandhar was founded on 1st January, 1941 by great philanthropists and educationists like Sh. Bindraban Sondhi, Rai Bahadur Badri Dass and Sh. Jagan Nath Mittal. This multi faculty, co-educational postgraduate college has completed 69 years (Diamond Jubilee) of remarkable service to the people and has established itself as one of the finest institutions of India.
Now the college has carved a niche, for itself and is proud of its vast alumni, who are masterminds in the different walks of life like Lord Swraj Paul - Chancellor, Wovlerhampton University, Sh. Yash Chopra - Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee, famous indian film producer and director of international repute, Sh. S.L Jain - Former Deputy DPI (Colleges) Punjab, Sh. GLORIOUS HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biotechnology in Doaba College provides an invaluable opportunity to those brains who aspire for distinguished career in the field of Biotechnology and Life sciences. To inculcate innovative scientific aptitude in the students, the Department facilitates an in house practical training, substantial scientific interaction and ample industrial exposure to these budding Biotechnologists so that they attain professional competence in the rapidly advancing field of Biotechnology.
The Department offers undergraduate programmes in Biotechnology and UGC sponsored certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses (Add on) in Bioinformatics. It has well equipped laboratories in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Plant and Animal tissue culture. The Department has a team of research oriented, focused and dedicated faculty that enable students to transform their aspirations into their achievements.
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The vast and continually expanding potential application of Biotechnology in human health care is viewed as only a beginning to the great era of Medical Biotechnology. It is infact an integration of science and technology to yield rich dividends in the form of new and improved drugs, vaccines, sensitive and specific diagnostic tools for infectious diseases and inherited disorders, research and clinical instrumentation etc. Medical Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing industries and the growing need of this emerging industry is modern Medical Biotechnologist that can accept the challenges beyond tomorrow. The present seminar will reflect recent developments in molecular basis of diseases that enable the scientific community to understand the molecular underpinnings of diseases, drug designing, drug delivery and targeting, vaccines, molecular diagnostics, gene therapy etc. Furthermore this scientific event is a significant endeavour to provide a stable platform to students, academicians and researchers for evaluating the concepts, techniques, current advances and applications of Medical Biotechnology in relation to the community needs.
