Department of Education, Doaba College, Jalandhar organized a seminar on the theme “Gender Equity and Equality” on 26th August 2023(Saturday). Mrs. Nupur Sandhu, Former President Rotary Club and Chair on Mental Health and Initiative was the resource person. She was warmly welcomed by Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, principal of the college, Dr. Avinash Bawa, Head, Department of Education, faculty members and students of the department. Dr. Avinash Bawa, in his inaugural address, spoke on the relevance of the theme in the current scenario. He differentiated between the terms gender equity and gender equality and said that it is equity that leads to equality. He said that in spite of the social and cultural biases, many women have been able to touch great heights. Dr. Nupur Sandhu, the resource person of the day, elaborated the whole issue by taking examples from society. She said that women should learn to assert themselves and take their own decisions. She said that women empowerment will come only when women learn to take responsibility for their actions. She also emphasized the role of family in women empowerment. Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, principal of the college, summed up the whole debate and said that a balanced approach has to be taken. He emphasized on need of financial literacy for women. In the end, Prof. Jaswinder Singh presented a formal vote of thanks. The stage was well conducted by Prof. Manjeet Kaur.
