Disha committee of Doaba College organized a National Seminar on Indian Culture: Human Values and Environment on 30th April 2022. Before inauguration Gulmohar trees were planted by Sh. Chander Mohan Ji, worthy President Arya Shiksha Mandal and Doaba College Management Committee and Padma Shri Sant Sh Balbir Singh Seechewal. The seminar was inaugurated by Padma Shri Sant Sh Balbir Singh Seechewal as chief guest accompanied by Dr. Renu Bhardwaj, Director of Research, GNDU, Amritsar as the guest of honor, President Arya Shiksha Mandal Sh. Chander Mohan Ji, Principal Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, Dr. Ominder Johal, Co-ordinator Disha Committee. Principal Dr. Pardeep Bhandari welcomed the guests. Quoting a shlok from rigveda, he asserted nature as a guardian for all human beings. Nature by fulfilling our needs, instill vitality in our life. Therefore we all are obliged to take care of it holistically. President Arya Shiksha Mandal Sh. Chander Mohan Ji presided over the national seminar. He quoted contemporary instances hampering the environment and expressed his concern about the environment. "Its high time to sensitize people about environment as most of the metropolitan cities of our country fall under the category of most polluted cities in whole world", said Sh chander Mohan.
Dr. Renu Bhardwaj, Director of Research, GNDU, Amritsar insisted upon adapting model of higher education, change in curriculum for environment sensitization. She said that steps have already been taken in this direction but are not satisfactory. With reference of water smart buildings in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in having rain water harvesting, water re-use and water-treatment technology, the University is setting up a role model for other Institutes. She further added that with the installation of solar panels the University, the University is producing surplus electricity. In addition to this, she also emphasized on fulfilling Sustainable development goals.
The chief guest Padma Shri Sant Sh Balbir Singh Seechewal insisted on the fact that one must be aware of its his/her duties and responsibilities towards environment. “The pessimistic thought is the biggest impediment in every endeavor. Public participation is more important than finances. Today the science is taking us towards destruction rather than creation. Association with Nature will automatically bring God in our lives. Need of the hour is to implement stringent rules, scientific perspective and spirituality together. Youth must be aware and self-reliant in making environment cleaner and better.” While narrating his difficult journey of cleaning of Kali Bein, he emphasized on respecting the 5 elements of nature- water, air, earth, fire, space. He said that if these 5 elements are respected, the mother nature will automatically be preserved.
Rohit Sharma, President Hawk riders Jalandhar; Arjun Paracyclist, Jaswinder Singh Bawa co-owner ‘The Bike Masters’ were honoured for their contribution in starting DCJ Biker’s Club. Pal Singh Nauli, Eminent Journalist and alumnus was also honoured. Prof Rajiv Anand, Head Department of English, Prof Arvind Nanda, Head Department of Mathematics, Prof KK Yadav, Head Department of Chemistry along with the faculty members and students attended the seminar.
